Jéssica S. Martins

Jéssica is working on large scale structure, with particular interest in beyond LCDM models. Warm dark matter is her current research interest.

We asked Jéssica a few more questions — here’s what she had to say:

When did you know you wanted to be a scientist?
I knew I wanted to be a scientist when I noticed that everything that intrigued me and fascinated me was related to nature and science. I chose to study Physics because I wanted to learn more about how the Universe works.
Do you have any hobbies or play any sports?
I train Kung Fu.
hs-2012-37-a-webWhat is your favorite space-related image, and why?
My favorite space image is Hubble deep field (right). This is one of the images we can really get an idea of how huge the universe is.
Any advice for aspiring scientists?
Sometimes science can be frustrating and disappointing, but if you really like it there will be always something you would like to study and to learn. Also, if you see yourself in a situation that isn’t good for you, for example, in a research area that not interests you or with an advisor that is not helping you, just change it. Don’t let this things demotivate you.
