Clare is interested in the way galaxies form and evolve. At the moment, she’s using DES data to look at the host galaxy properties of dusty quasars at high redshift (2<z<3).
We asked Clare a few more questions — here’s what she had to say:
Do you have any hobbies or play any sports?
I love all kinds of dancing and enjoy running now and again.
What is your favorite book, movie, and/or TV show?
I’m a big fan of horror films, but when it comes to TV, you can’t beat a good animated sitcom like Family Guy or The Simpsons.
If you weren’t a scientist, what would your dream job be?
Growing up, I really enjoyed art, so perhaps something creative like an artist or interior designer.
What do you think has been the most exciting advance in physics / astronomy in the last 10 years?
The detection of gravitational waves.
Any advice for aspiring scientists?
Ask questions. Don’t be afraid of looking stupid if you don’t understand something. You’ll look far worse if you pretend to understand something you don’t.
